Age Spots, Sun Damage, Pigmentation & Freckle Treatment
At Bare Essentials in Oxfordshire we use the latest technology to treat your age spots, pigmentation problems, sun damage or freckles
Pigmented spots are coloured spots or patches on the skin caused by increased production of melanin, the dark pigment in the skin (sun spots, age spots, freckles, uneven skin tone). Some are present at birth whilst others develop with exposure to sun or with age. Although most people want smooth, clear youthful looking skin, unfortunately sun damage is inevitable. Age spots happen with age and are sometimes called liver spots
The main cause of pigmentation including age/sun spots is, not surprisingly sun/solar damage or photo-ageing; but pigmentation and age spots can also be aggravated by other factors, including the use of harsh products, hormonal fluctuations or imbalances from pregnancy or the contraceptive pill for example, certain medications, Vitamin B12 deficiency and also inflammation following trauma or troublesome acne lesions. The two worst things you can do for hyper pigmentation is to engage in further tanning (whether outdoors or on a sun bed); and smoke, due to the burning of toxins close to your face.
The good news is that we can help treat them using the latest technology at our West Hagbourne Clinic, South Oxfordshire.
What are freckles and can they be treated?
Freckles are localised deposits of melanin. Brown, round or oval pigmented areas on the skin, they are often barely visible. Freckles often occur most often in people with fair skin and light or red hair. The tendency to freckle is usually inherited. They become more numerous and darker in the sun, and therefore more noticeable.Sun/age spots are usually darker and larger than freckles; and with the ageing process they often appear in noticeable locations such as hands, face and chest becoming visibly larger and serving as a giveaway to advancing years! These are often tell-tale signs of age that people forget to pay attention to when adopting an anti-ageing regime including skin care and skin tightening; yet this evidence can be potentially disguised with our highly effective treatments for age/liver spots.
How is pigmentation treated at Bare Essentials?
Non-invasive and safe, a course of IPL® combined with radio frequency, can dramatically reduce pigmentation on the face, neck and hands, and is suitable for both men and women. The light energy from the advanced IPL® system is absorbed by the melanin in freckles, sun spots or liver spots.
The pigmented area absorbs the light and is heated, the pigment it then fragmented and is removed by skin renewal and absorbed into the body. Following treatment, the pigmented area turns darker and may crust. Over the following days or weeks the pigmented area will gradually flake away from the skin leaving little or no trace of the original mark. After the first treatment, the pigmented (vascular/speckled) area may feel prickly. The pigment will turn quite dark and then will flake off within days or sometimes up to 3 or 4 weeks. In subsequent treatments any further melanin will be dispelled in 10 days on average and metabolized underneath the skin.
Are there any secondary effects?
The treatment is non-invasive so there is NO recovery period after treatment. Normal activities may resume immediately after the treatment. In certain cases there may be redness in the treated area, although this will usually disappear within a few hours at the most; and as mentioned the area could feel itchy for a period. In the majority of cases there are no visible secondary effects. If treating the face we will always offer a high quality mineral make-up so that you leave the clinic feeling as confident as you did when you first came in. Sometimes the treated lesions appear darker after treatment and more obvious at first but gradually the marks will fade away. We can offer Youngblood mineral make up to safely camouflage these transient effects
How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments will depend on the size of the areas of pigmentation and how long it has been present for. Treatments can be spaced every 4 – 6 weeks. Improvements can be seen with every treatment, but a course of 1-3 treatment is recommended every 4 weeks for maximum results for someone with a significant area requiring clearance.
A consultation will be needed first to discuss the cost.
Prices start at £15
